Network
Ventria has actively developed a leading scientific network, which
acts as a source of product and technology innovation and complementary
technology development. The current members of our network include:
Dr. Roger Beachy
Roger, a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences,
is internationally known for his work on virus-resistant plants.
In January 1999, he assumed the position of President of the Donald
Danforth Plant Science Center, in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Eric Conn
Eric, a member of the National Academy of Sciences, is a pioneer
in the biosynthesis
and utilization of cyanide
in higher plants. He also discovered phenylalanine
ammonia-lyase, one of the most important regulatory enzymes
in the plant cell. Eric is Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry
at University of California, Davis.
Dr. Gurdev Khush
Gurdev, a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences,
retired as the principal plant breeder and head of the Plant Breeding,
Genetics and Biochemistry Division of the International Rice Research
Institute. Gurdev, winner of the World Food Prize, is the premier
rice breeder in the world. Today, rice crops serve as a staple food
for one-half of the world's population. His contributions in rice
genetics and breeding have provided the scientific basis for the
green revolution in Asia and other parts of the world.

Dr. Bo Lonnerdal
Bo, a Professor of Nutrition and Internal Medicine at the University
of California, Davis, received his master's and doctoral degrees
in Biochemistry at the University of Uppsala in Sweden. Bo has had
a long career in the study of in
vitro and in
vivo activity of human milk proteins.
Dr. Ray Rodriguez
Ray is one of the early pioneers of biotechnology. As an A.P. Giannini
and NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Herbert Boyer at
the UC Medical Center in San Francisco, he developed technologies
that now serve as the foundation of the modern biotechnology industry.
In 1993, he founded Ventria Bioscience and served as its board chairman
until 1999. Ray currently serves as Chairman and C.E.O. of Davis
Bioscience Group, a life-science consulting company. Ray is a professor
in the Section of Molecular and Cellular Biology at University of
California, Davis.

Dr. Diter von Wettstein
Diter, a member of the United States National Academy of Sciences,
has published 300 papers in genetics, plant breeding, developmental
physiology,
cell biology, plant biochemistry, and molecular biology. He is a
leader in the area of production of high-value molecules in transgenic
cereals. Diter is a professor at the Department of Crop and
Soil Sciences at Washington State University.
